The Royal Braemar Highland Games, Braemar Scotland

Meet the Queen! (Well, we're working on it). What do you get when you combine the Royal Braemar Highland games with the a hunt for the Loch Ness Monster, a voyage to the Western Inner Hebrides and the final celebration of the Edinburgh Military pipe-band Tattoo? The Best Tour of Scotland you could imagine! This tour only happens on years when the Final night of the Tattoo is separated one week by the Royal Braemar Highland games. We'll have to take this itinerary when we have the chance.

 

Day 1 26 August (Last Saturday of August every year)

There are two meeting times, one official, the other un-official. The un-official meeting time will be in the morning where we'll be taking a city tour of Edinburgh including a visit to Arthur's Seat. For those meeting us in the evening, the "official" meeting time, (as you might be arriving that day), we'll be having dinner together prior to the final night of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The fireworks and celebrations will be a night to remember. We'll be staying at the historic and luxurious Balmoral Hotel while in Edinburgh.

Day 2 27 August 2006

Today we'll be driving through Sterling stopping to pay homage to Sir William Wallace at Abbey Craig before making our way to the fabulous Isle of Eriska Hotel near the picturesque town of Oban on the west coast of Scotland. This truly one of a kind hotel is set on it's own island and has their own golf course and spa.

Day 3 28 August 2006

Relaxation is the name of the game today. Whether you golf, take a spa treatment and/or join us on a boat journey to the Isle of Mull and Iona, you'll love this part of the world. All options are winners and you'll be happy to relax at this one of kind spectacular hotel.

Day 4 29 August 2006

Today we'll be journeying through Fort William on our way to the Island of Skye. We'll be lunching at Inverlochy Castle before visiting Dunvegan Castle on our way to the cute town of Portree on the Island of Skye where we'll arrive at our home for the next three nights, the Cuillin Hills Hotel.

Day 5 30 August 2006

Today is our first of two days on the Isle of Skye. You'll learn the fantastic history of this island participating in beautiful walks both in and around the town of Portree and in the surrounding hills.

Day 6 31 August 2006

On our second day of relaxation, we'll be journeying to the far side of the Island to view the outer Hebrides. That evening will be your first and only Night-On-Your-Own allowing you to sample the various culinary delights that Portree has to offer. Your guides will suggest a great restaurant depending on your culinary tastes (note to all Haggis lovers!)

Day 7 1 September 2006

Our hunt for the elusive Loch Ness monster begins this morning. Keeping your cameras ready we'll enjoy a boat journey will be on the famous Lock Ness boat cruising the Loch with the most sophisticated equipment available. That afternoon we'll be commuting through the famous whiskey trail, with potentially a chance to sample a drop of the sweet nectar. That night we're arriving at our final hotel of the trip, the charismatic Hilton Craigendarroch.

Day 8 2 September 2006

It's here! The most celebrated games in Scotland, The Royal Braemar Highland Games. You'll be revelling in the bagpipes enjoying all the game events from the Celtic Dancing to the tossing of the Kaber. This day of revelry will be one to remember.

All great things must come to an end and we'll drop you off in Edinburgh for your next incredible journey.
