Il Chiostro, Pienza, Italy
We are staying at Il Chiostro
for the first two days of our Italian Biking
trip. You'll love this hotel. It's set right
in the center of the UNESCO World Heritage town
of Pienza. The views from the hotel overlook
the whole Orcia Valley. Looking down one side
of the valley you'll see the town of Montalcino
where you were on the morning of the first day.
Walking to the other side of the town, you'll
see the hilltop town of Montepulciano where
we'll be cycling to on the second day.
From our hotel we'll have a
private tour of the walled city. The city itself
was purpose built by Pope Pius the Second who
grew up in the area and after becoming Pope
declared a Papal Bull that declared Pienza to
be the center of art. The Duomo (right beside
the hotel!) was one of the first Renaissance
cathedrals in Tuscany and was finished (consecrated)
in 1462.
The bottom line is that we love this hotel,
we love the intimate service we receive, we
love the location and we're sure that you'll
love the Il Chiostro as well.
